If you have recently received a random message or contact from an unknown person containing text similar to the title, it may be a troll. His name seems to be Paul Melville Austin, but he uses a variety of pseudonyms, including Paul Benjamn Austin (also just plain Paul Austin) and Paul Sebastian Williams, to harass users and gain attention for himself. He seems to have accounts on both LiveJournal and Dreamwidth under the names of [personal profile] australianchild, [livejournal.com profile] bullenemu, [livejournal.com profile] colemancharlott and [livejournal.com profile] tyne_wear (ETA Also [personal profile] marmaladeatkins, [livejournal.com profile] carlottecoleman, [livejournal.com profile] marmaladeatkins, [livejournal.com profile] thetestcard, [livejournal.com profile] australiaoz, [livejournal.com profile] marmalade44, [livejournal.com profile] uline, [livejournal.com profile] marmaladeat, [livejournal.com profile] charcoleman, [livejournal.com profile] ozaustralia, [livejournal.com profile] marmalade00, [livejournal.com profile] australian00s, [livejournal.com profile] australiachild and [livejournal.com profile] tyne_and_wear) but may have others. He is also known to use some non-journal nicknames and have multiple email addresses.

He has several behaviors, and a general pattern by which you can identify him;
*He contacts users, via email, IM's or private messages.
*He usually presents himself as either a young woman (generally using a stolen icon) or as an older, disabled man.
- His frequently changes his name with each contact.
*He will generally start out saying something like "can I talk to you?".
*He then launches into a story of abuse.
- Sometimes the abuse will be sexual and sometimes it is disability related, with either a sexual or humiliation component. The specific details vary from contact to contact.
*He will often express gender identity confusion and/or dating problems.
*He is interested in alternate history and fandom and will sometimes try to use this to get close to his new target.
*He often sets off the "squick-o-meter" when conversing with people. You may get a feeling that there is something Not Quite Right.
*On some occasions he has continued communication, even after being asked to stop

For example in August 2008 he posed as a High School Student called Marta (http://community.feministing.com/2008/08/reaching-out-and-welcoming.html) who was a survivor of sexual abuse.

This behaviour has continued over many years. He may or may not be dangerous. Please use appropriate amounts of caution if you choose to interact with him. If you feel he is breaking or has broken the Dreamwidth or LiveJournal Terms of Service while interacting with you, please contact them immediately. They can be reached via abuse@dreamwidth.org or abuse@livejournal.com, as appropriate.

I am trying to collect more information about the people he contacts and his interactions with them. If you believe you may have had contact with one of his personas, please leave me a message on this post.

Can anyone point me to a recording of a bugle playing The Last Post I can burn to CD, for my friend to play at her grandmothers funeral?

Text ganked from [personal profile] jmtorres

So! [personal profile] ysobel is seeking a roommate, for FREE RENT. Here's the deal--she is disabled, uses a wheelchair, has described her condition in more detail here, and (this is the key part) cannot get in and out of bed by herself. She has aides who regularly put her to bed and get her up in the morning, but she needs a roommate to live with her so that in the event of emergency, flood, fire, zombies, what have you, they could get her out of bed and into her chair and out the door. So she is offering FREE RENT for being on call to help her out of bed in the event of midnight emergency. (I have put her to bed while visiting her, and I have no special training, it's easy enough to do with just [personal profile] ysobel's instruction. She uses a mechanized lift harness thing, so there's no heavy lifting involved on her assistant's part. She actually sleeps with the harness unhooked but still in place, so Emergency Get Out Get Out Get Out! would probably consist of hook harness up to lift, swing her over to her chair, unhook, buckle her seatbelt, and off she goes.)

[personal profile] ysobel lives in Davis, CA. She prefers a female roommate. If you know anyone in the area or soon to be moving to the area who would like a place to live for FREE RENT in exchange for In Case of Emergency services, please get in touch! If you don't know anybody, please ask anyone who might!

[personal profile] ysobel's post with contact info.

ETA [personal profile] ysobel/[livejournal.com profile] isabeau was about the sixth person I friended on LJ back in 2002, via the old magic interests search, and she's really good people, so please boost this signal far and wide.

OH LJ.

(I think it's particularly touching the way they are now implying that [personal profile] synecdochic was "misleading" people, and they are not back-pedalling at all, no siree, not us.)

As always I have DW codes to give away.

We picked up a desk from guy from Freegle (what used to be Freecycle before the schism) today. And I helped Doug get it upstairs before I went to pick the girls from pre-school.

I got back and heard a "I think I need some help up here," coming from upstairs.

This is what I was greeted with as I went up the stairs.

It was Mum's Seventieth last week, and on Saturday we had a party for her. Because she's a nightmare to buy for, and we don't have a lot of money to buy stuff anyway, I offered to make her cake.

For some I-want-to-give-myself-a-nervous-breakdown reason, I thought, 'Hey one of Mum's passions is Bell Ringing, I'll make her a Bell Shaped cake. It will be easy!'

It wasn't.

It turned out really well though, and people were impressed with it, but I think Doug was ready to throttle me, as Saturday morning I was nearly in tears because it hadn't gone as I wanted it too, and I'd convinced myself it looked awful. Fortunately by the time I got to the party, I'd got some perspective, and realised it actually looked good, and wasn't too upset over one of the letter getting broken and changing LXX to LXY.

It was wonderful seeing everybody again. I don't get to see my cousins nearly enough - especially now we've all got babies and jobs and grown-up things like that. I did however extract a lot of promises from people to come and visit us. AND I WILL HOLD YOU ALL TO THEM! ;-)

Anyway more photos here -

Castle! I think that was my favourite episode so far. There were so many bits that set me a-squeeing with their awesomeness.

One thing I didn't catch til my second viewing* was that the fact that the victim was bisexual wasn't commented on, wasn't made a joke of and wasn't the reason he was murdered. It was just there. NCIS? Take notes please.

And onto the fanservice )

And briefly in non-Castle related news -

I've just got an app for my iPhone called Best Camera‡, and have been playing around with it. The camera is the one part I don't like about the iPhone - it's shit, especially as my phone before had a 5 megapixel camera with a Carl Ziess(sp?) lens. But I quite like some of the effects you can get with this app. You can see some of the results I got with it at my Best Camera Gallery. My favourite I've taken so far is this picture of the Second Severn Crossing.

We watched the first episode of Little Mosque on the Prairie. And apart from the fact I have huge difficulties spelling Prairie, I loved it. So painfully funny. I'm going to leave off talking more about it until I watched more, but can someone point me towards the fic?

Dreamwidth now allows email posting for all account types and have up'd icon limits across the board...

...whilst LJ fails in it's news post.

Lastly, who's on GoogleWave? I need more people to talk to.

* OK so I've watched it three times since Tuesday. Shut up, I was clipping. ;-)
† I really like Doctor Holloway, can he come back?
‡ The best camera is the one you have with you.

Here's the plan: every Friday, let's recommend some people and/or communities to follow on Dreamwidth. That's it. No complicated rules, no "pass this on to 7.328 friends or your cat will die". Just introduce us to some new things to read.

[info - personal] damned_colonial Originator of the Meme on DW. Awesome geeky feminist. Done a huge amount to champion OTW and DW in the open source community.

[info - personal] lauredhel One of the people behind Hoyden About Town.

[info - personal] helens78 There are many, many reasons why [info - personal] helens78 is awesome and should be subscribed to, but the reason I'm giving you today is [info - community] dreamsheep.

[info - personal] bossymarmalade Apart from the fact her username makes me crave toast, she's funny, smart and has the most adorable dad ever.

[info - community] spotification Got Spotify? Want playlists? Look no further.

I used to have a multi-version solitaire game, (I can't remember whether it was on my PC [it definitely wasn't my mac] or Phone or some other format), which had a particular version of solitaire I really want to play again.

The only problem is, I can't remember the name of it, and am unable it track it down.

I'm fairly certain it was played with two decks, laid out in 8 columns with forming the foundations and a further 4, 5 or 6 rows below that, (the tableau laid out in a grid and all face up) and a stock pile.

The foundation piles were built down in suit, and you could moves cards either by placing them in an empty gap in the row above, or by placing them on a card one pip lower on the same row or the row above.

Cards were fed from the stock pile onto the bottom row whether into a space or on a card one pip lower.

Does anyone recognise my crappy description, and if so do they know what it's called? (If you know of an iPhone app with this variant in, I will love you for ever!)

ETA As I've rather failed to describe it adequately, I've mocked up an approximation of the game lay out using another solitaire game and photoshop. Please click below the cut to see it.

I promise I've got lots of housework to do today, so I'm really not going to be Spammy McSpamerson, but favourite bouncy and upbeat music to do said housework to?

If you happen to have a Spotify playlist PLEASE LINK ME.

Also having a second can of Red Bull straight after finishing the first one would be a stupid thing to do, wouldn't it?

to say, did anyone else get stuck to the sofa?

Not only were my legs stuck to the sofa, but I couldn't move my arms or my head, and couldn't speak. Doug got heavy legs and that's it. Very weird feeling.

I've been planning a post on gendered toys and clothing, but I'm coming down with a cold and my head is spinning so you're getting miscellaneous crap instead.

I heard about Patrick Swayze and Keith Floyd this morning as I was getting the kids read for school. Dirty Dancing was such a big part of my teen years and bonding over crushes on Jonny Castle was a big part of that. My sister and I wore out her VHS copy of the film by watching the last scene over and over again.*

Keith Floyd was a part of my childhood, albeit in a completely different way. My parents were really good friends with his cameraman Clive North, so my main memories of him was that of a few school friends being impressed that I knew the infamous Clive. It did make me nostalgic though when he popped up on Balamory though, in Suzie Sweet's song.

Someone linked to this on Twitter last night - Sexual Assault Prevention Tips Guaranteed to Work

I'm a bad fan, I had no idea Eddie Izzard was doing this. My legs ache just thinking about it.

On BBC Wales they're showing an eight part documentary called Wild Welsh Zoo, (sadly that link will only work if the BBC thinks you're a UK licence player, I believe there are work arounds) about Anny Ryder Richardson, (her from Changing Rooms) buying a Zoo just outside Tenby. Well, we went there on Saturday. If anyone is in the Tenby area, it's well worth a visit. They've already done quite a bit to improve the lot of the animals at the park, (Doug and I said it's telling that they've changed the name from Manor House Wild Animal Park to Manor House Wildlife Park. Such a small change, but very indicative.) and there's still a lot of work on going. Plus it's the type of place where you as soon as you arrive you know kids are welcome there - the big lawn area in front of the house is full of Space Hoppers.

Dustjackets - A Castle Wiki - I have a half finished Castle picspam I must finish - people need know how awesome Kate Beckett, and why they need to be watching Castle. (This means YOU) Also Martha's awesomeness needs to more widely acknowledged.

I'm still watching Warehouse 13, although I'm sort of ashamed of this because it's so faily on race and sexism, and it's not particularly good telly. But I've fallen for Myka and Claudia, and Pete is as inoffensive a puppy, and so I'm hanging in on there. However Artie is a charmingless arsehole, I'm beginning to understand a bit how people who didn't like Rodney McKay felt.

I had more stuff I wanted to talk about, but my head is stuffed with cotton wool, and I can't remember what it was, so this will have to do.

*I texted her to tell her about his death. Her first reply was the standard dismay and sadness reply. Her next reply was as follows - "Do you think they will put a watermelon on his coffin? Then his pall bearers can say 'I carried a watermelon'".

So I'm finally catching up on NCIS and Numb3rs, (two and a half seasons of NCIS and one and a half seasons of Numb3rs*) and I've just watched Arrow of Time.

I can't help thinking it would have gone a lot more differently if Megan was around to kick Don's ass.

*I'm watching Numb3rs in order, but NCIS I'm jumping around and watching episodes as they take my fancy. This is mainly because of the reason I stopped watching NCIS in the first place - the whole Jeanne/La Grenouille plotline comes half between a squick and a trigger for me)

My friend Amy has a new single coming out in October, which has gone on pre-sale today* (17th August), and they're hoping to have 5000 pre-orders by October, which will count towards that weeks chart position, and they're hoping she might be able to reach the Top 40.

If you've got a minute could you go to www.amywadgeholdme.com, listen to the single, and if it's your kind of thing, consider pre-ordering it. (Non UK sales count too!)

Amy is a really lovely person, and an amazingly talented singer/songwriter. You can listen to a couple of her tracks here, here, here and you can listen to samples of her tracks on iTunes here.

It's only £0.99, (around $1.60), and it would really mean a lot to Amy to do this.

If you can signal boost and re-post or link to this post, I'd be really grateful, especially those with larger friends list/circles than me.

Diolch yn fawr iawn.

* When I was typing this it was today, but due to my sister and her kids visiting (we are currently a household of eight kids!) I didn't get to post it til today (18th August)

It's now officially my Birthday.

There is to be chocolate involved.

I watched the first episode of Castle tonight. I really enjoyed it, (although I had to consciously suspend my disbelief and ignore the plot holes) and I'm in love with Kate Beckett. Castle I like in a - he's the male lead so of course he's a dick - kind of way, and his daughter's really cute.

I've also watched the first two episodes of Warehouse 13. Again I love Myka, and Pete so far doesn't seem to be too much of a dick, just very small boy annoying. A bit iffy on Myka's traumatic past, but I'm so far letting it go as they seem to be allowing her to be actually competent, rather than telling us and then showing evidence against it.

I do hope we see the ferret again.

Now off to bed so I can go to sleep and wake up for my Birthday proper.
