If Whedon fans are half the feminists they claim Joss is, then they need to stop being so effing dismissive of valid concerns.

Even if everything they say about the show's purpose is spot on, the more I hear things like

"Joss got an award from Equality Now, and they should know!/His previous shows were feminist, so obviously this is!"

the more it's starting to annoy the bejeesus out of me. Every go around it sounds more like but Joss is a card carrying feminist and he understands feminism better than all you stupid women ever will.

Thanks for the link. I understand the urge of people to get behind Whedon and point to his previous shows/statements as evidence that he'd never do anything anti-feminist. But it's really frustrating, once again, to see the conversation get shut down like that.

Because "Dollhouse" does have some valid squicky issues, whether you want to blame the writing or the network or something else for it. There should be room to discuss why without getting into "so you're calling Joss Whedon a sexist?!"

I'm one of those who trusted Joss, because while I'm not really willing to put blind faith in a writer indefinitely, I did expect him to show the squicky concept for what it was -- creepy as frak. Just in case you haven't been watching, he is presenting it as creepy as frak, and we're fast approaching the point at which the victims gain agency and fight the good fight. The FOX promos remain disgusting, though.

Anyway, I'm not here for that, I'm here to suggest you post a picture for Sweet Charity, because I'm suspecting that people aren't aware of just how cool paper beads look.
