(no subject)

I just watched the Jonathan Creek episode Jack in the Box (S01E02). My main thought boils down to - Jesus mobiles were huge in those days. Also I doubt that they would show Maddy trying to drive and use the mobile at the same time nowadays, let alone make a joke of it.

I looked up the air dates and Maddy's last episode aired nearly nine years ago, which seems too long ago. Plus there weren't nearly enough of them.

I then watched Mother Redcap (S02E06) [the torrent is coming down really slowly, and it was the next complete file I had] which has one of the scenes of the entire series I'm most fannish about.

I mean, I don't really ship Maddy/Jonathan, but their relationship is one of the things that always made the show for me. I don't read it as consistantly sexual (although it has it's moments!), but they do care very deeply for one another. So whilst I love that they spend most of their time insulting each other and refuting any feelings, it makes those little moments where their love for each other shows all the more sweeter.

So Jonathan's "I could have killed you." has been most of the basis for my fannish love for the show.

I just wish David Renwick hadn't taken Caroline Quentin's going to ITV so personally. And based on Jonathan's line in the NY day episode, he's still pissed off by it. (I however am choosing to take the line as evidence that Jonathan feels the loss of Maddy much more than he feels Carla's. My fannish denial, let me show it)

Now I just have to wait for next episode to come down.

And if there's more than one person on my FL who cares about any of this I will me surprised.

I downloaded and watched the first series a while ago and it was brilliant. I loved Caroline Quentin, I was so sad when she left. :( I should find series 2!

Oh definitely, and series 3 too. I'd watch the later series too because some of them are fun, it's just that... Carla.

I mean I've loved Julia Sawalha since the days of Press Gang, and have loved in everything she's done since, but I hate Carla.

And not of all of it's because she replaced Maddy who I adored. The character is intensely irritating, as is the situation with her husband.

(I must admit I did feel a bit like one of the crazy Rosefen when I liked Joey in the most recent NY day special. You know the ones that hated Martha because she replace Rose, but were OK with Donna because they'd accepted Rose wasn't coming back by then? [even though she did])

But yes, JC is love and you should watch it all. (The more people who watch it and love it, the more chance there is of getting fic. ;-) )

I care! I hated Carla.

So did I. And I loved Julia Sawahla in everything she's done, but Carla?

She was one of the most intensely irritating characters on telly. And I hated the whole set up they had with her husband.

Bleuch.

I want Maddy back. (It adds insult to injury that Caroine Quentin is back on the BBC, playing a character called Maddy, and IT'S NOT ON JONATHAN CREEK!)

Actually, I do care- I stopped watching Jonathon Creek after Maddie left, it just seemed flat with her gone.

Julia, she was so vivid, in a way TV characters rarely are.

I carried on watching, 'cos I do kind of love the concept of the show, but I watched it all the while hating Carla.

Have you watched the one that was on on New Years Day? They had new partner for Jonathan and she was a lot more palatable than Carla. It felt a lot like a return to form. (Well as much as you can return to form without Maddy)

I don't watch them until they get to BBC America (Miss Perfect still watches them, when she can) so I haven't seen the new series at all.

Julia, not watching as much TV as I did when I watched the first two seasons of Jonathon Creek

You need to get out more ;)

[and yes, although I only caught a couple of episodes, I loved CQ and when she left I didn't bother carrying on watching]
