Question

Lets assume, for whatever reason, you have no ability to write fanfiction. None. And yet you are an avid reader, can't get enough of it.

So what's worse, your dream fic being written badly, or not written at all?

[Poll #740691]

Someone wrote what I think is the first crossover of my two favourite fandoms, and yep, it was not good.

However I can't decide whether it would have been better to have no fic at all, or a badly written fic which I can then mentally edit and revise into something better.

It is better to reread classics while waiting than to have hopes dashed. :/

I believe it was [livejournal.com profile] makd although it may have been [livejournal.com profile] nan_dibble who mentioned beta-ing poorly written fic and then reading it as a new story...

Julia, me, I've been known to be kicked out of a fic by a passage of badly punctuated dialogue

I am an avid reader and I can't write for toffee but sometimes I have wanted to go to an author and ask them to let me re-write their whole story because although the ideas were good, the execution was abysmal. I never have of course, it's just not cricket.

Hope it's okay I jumped in and took the poll via friendsfriends. :)

It's so frustrating to find a good concept that's been done poorly, because it does feel like there's now a block to it being re-done, but well.

Um. Though I read some badly executed fics and then rewritten them in my head. And in IMs. And on paper. And...yes.

There is already a global crap mountain - no point adding to it.

I picked not written at all over badly written because then I can imagine it in my head, how I'd want it.
